Course Information
Description Principles of instrumentation applicable to industrial applications; fundamentals of measurement and control devices; currently used ISA (Instrument Society of America) symbology; basic flow sheet layout and drafting practices.
Prerequisites Basic CAD (DFTG 1409) and Technical Drafting (DFTG 1305)
Learning Outcomes 1) Identify ISA symbols and interpret basic flow sheet layout principles; interpret instrumentation/flow diagram relationships and flow sheet/plot plan/piping/interrelationship; and prepare flow sheet (process and mechanical) diagrams.

2) Create electrical details and diagrams; and utilize current standards to size conductors, conduit, controllers and calculate load factors and distribution requirements.

Program Student Learning Outcomes PSLO 2. Utilize drafting terms, symbols, construction materials, and processes to produce drawings; identify components of structural, architectural, civil, mechanical or pipe systems; use charts and standards; generate isometric or perspective drawings; calculate measurements for pipe fittings, stick frame structures, metal structures, earthwork, or roadways; create layouts and drawings related to the five disciplines studied.

PSLO 3. Identify terminology and basic functions used with CAD software; use computer hardware and CAD software to create, organize, and plot/print working drawings; use intermediate functions of CAD software to create and print drawings.

Instructor Policies Course requirements
1. Read chapters and complete reviews

4. Attend class and take notes from lectures
Attendance Policy (all work during absence must be made up)
1. 6 absences allowed – 3 tardies are equivalent to 1 absence, 7th absence may equal automatic drop
2. For every 3 absences your grade drops a letter grade. Students need to make a “C” or better to continue through the Drafting program.



Course Policies
1. No food, drinks, electronic cigarettes, vaping or use of tobacco products in class.
2. No foul or harsh language will be tolerated.
3. Turn off all cell phones during lectures.
4. Headphones may be worn only upon instructor approval.
5. Do not bring children to class.
6. No cheating of any kind will be tolerated. Students caught cheating or helping someone to cheat can and will be removed from the class for the semester. Cheating can result in expulsion from LIT.
7. If you wish to drop a course, the student is responsible for initiating and completing the drop process. If you stop coming to class and fail to drop the course you will earn an “F” in the course.
8. Backups a. It is the student’s responsibility to make back-up copies of their work. Do not rely on the server to be there 100% of the time. I cannot help you if you lose your work. Remember that in order for your work to be graded it must be turned in.
9. Internet usage Classroom computers have access to the internet.
1. Student usage of the internet will be monitored.
2. Proper usage of the internet will be allowed to be used for classroom research or as directed.
3. Any unauthorized use of the internet will not be tolerated.
4. Improper usage of the internet, such as profanity, pornography, gambling, etc. will result in disciplinary action not limited to expulsion from LSCPA.
10. Instructor has the prerogative to change the course schedule and topics, as well as, the due dates of quizzes and assignments as deemed necessary.
11. Students may be moved around for the purpose of taking a test.
12. Every student must have a copy of the required textbooks and supplies.
13. Grades will be posted on Blackboard.
Attendance Policy Attendance Policy
1.    A student is allowed a maximum of 6 absences and may be automatically dropped from the course on the 7th absence.

2.    Three (3) tardies are equivalent to 1 absence

3.    A student's grade will drop a full letter grade for every 3 absences.

4.    Attendance is defined as actively participating and listening in class.

5.    Each class is worth 10 points each with students being graded on their level of participation.

Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
